Feature Spotlight
Mac OS X Finder Plug-in
In Virtual Ticket 7.0 and Digital Storage Manager 2.0, the Production Pack includes a new plug-in for the Mac OS X Finder. The Finder Plug-in is a contextual menu plug-in that extends the functionality of Digital Storage Manager and Virtual Ticket to the Mac OS X Finder. By Control-clicking (or Right-clicking) a file or folder in the Mac OS X Finder, a Virtual Ticket or Digital Storage Manager entry will appear in the Finder context menu. These allow users to launch VT or DSM, add the selected files/folders to the database, move or archive the files, set archiving dates and much more.

Q&A with Technical Support
What does the Search option in the MetaCommunications Production Portal do?
The Quick Search, a permanent search field located in the upper left corner of every page in Production Portal, provides users with the ability to search several different fields at one time for records of a particular type (Jobs, Customer, etc). When users type the search criteria into the search field, the search will automatically be conducted across multiple database fields to help users locate records that might pertain to the search. For example, suppose you'd like to find all of the jobs that contain "Large Format". This information might have been typed into the job name, description, or had a PO number containing the information. The Quick Search allows you to find all of the occurrences of "Large Format" in those fields.

Smart Tip of the Month
Create your own Find Categories
Assigning Categories to Virtual Ticket and Digital Storage Manager Finds is a new feature in the most recent versions of both applications. Categories allow administrators and users to organize their Finds in a way that enables users an easier way to locate information in the system. New Categories can be created at the time of saving a Find, or the creator can look through a list of Categories they have used previously. For example, suppose you have several Finds that are used to locate jobs of different statuses. A Category could be created, named Job Status, and all of your individual Job Status Finds (Open, On Hold, Ready To Archive, Closed) could be saved to this Category. When it comes time to run one of the Job Status Finds, simply choose the Job Status Category from the Find menu in VT or DSM and choose the needed Find from the sub menu.

More Contextual Menu Plug-ins
Earlier in this edition we mentioned the Production Pack Mac OS X Finder Plug-in, which extends the functionality of VT and DSM to the Mac OS X Finder Context menu. There are several locations on the internet that provide other Finder plug-ins for performing a wide variety of tasks in OS X. MetaCommunications makes no warranty or claims of fitness for any of the plug-ins or software obtained from these sites.
