Feature Spotlight

Revealing Your Assets

A key feature of Virtual Ticket is the digital asset management capabilities. This includes the ability to track digital assets in the file system. In Virtual Ticket, the location of your digital assets in the file system can be found in several places. These places include:

  • The Properties window, by clicking the path icon
  • The File Location field in the Digital Resource record
  • By choosing the Reveal in Finder option

By using the first and last options above, the actual file system location of the file can be revealed. These options display the file in its directory in the file system.

Q&A with Technical Support

What is the appropriate procedure for configuring the Mac OS X version of Virtual Ticket for automatic upgrade?

The automatic upgrade setup procedure for the Mac OS X version of Virtual Ticket is similar to the classic version with a few subtle changes. The client retains the same basic naming convention used in previous versions, but the Mac OS X operating system platform is indicated by an “X” in the update file name (ex. vt-x-6.0.1234). Once a workstation attempts to update to the new client, a compressed version of the file is placed into the auto upgrade directory to help increase the speed of the upgrade.

Smart Tip of the Month

Editable Grid Construction

Previously in Virtual Ticket, grids were static in nature. Now a solution detailed in Knowledge Base Article 16192 allows grids to be constructed with editable variable fields. This alternative grid implementation utilizes MetaScript to format each grid field, create navigation controls and store the information in the database. Each line of the grid is recorded in an attached document record in the database which makes searching for data in the grid easy. Included with the article is an example form and document type.

Third Party Software

ExtremeZ-IP

Macintosh file sharing with the traditional Windows Services for Macintosh has become undesirable for some Windows system administrators. Those looking to make a change should evaluate GroupLogic’s ExtremeZ-IP. ExtremeZ-IP claims a more stable and compatible environment for Macintosh file sharing. It is compatible with Windows 2000 and 2003 and supports long file names and file sizes over 2GB. Some of our customers have found this product to be exceptional.
