New Feature Spotlight
Production Pack Auto-Upgrade
In addition to the auto-upgrade capabilities of the Job Manager and Virtual Ticket client applications, the Virtual Ticket Production Pack can now be upgraded automatically. By placing your new Adobe Illustrator Plug-in or QuarkXPress XTension into a specified location on your server and entering the necessary file location information into a text file on your client machines, your Virtual Ticket Production Pack will be upgraded the next time you launch your Adobe Illustrator or QuarkXPress applications.
For more information about auto-upgrading your Virtual Ticket Production Pack, visit: http://www.meta-comm.com/support/knowledge_base/article.asp?id=16118.
Global Find Shortcuts
Virtual Ticket Administrator 5.0 has the ability to assign shortcut keys to Global Finds. This makes opening your frequently used Virtual Ticket global finds a quick shortcut away. The method for creating and saving your Global Finds stays the same, but an additional option of entering a shortcut command is now provided when naming your Global Find.
Q&A with Technical Support
What is the FTP Logs Uploader?
The FTP Logs Uploader is a tool that allows for the quick upload of client, server, and InterSync logs to the MetaCommunications Support and Engineering departments. By choosing this option from the MetaCommunications Programs menu (Start>Programs>MetaCommunications>FTP Logs Uploader), all logs located on the application and/or InterSync server are placed into an archive and uploaded to the MetaCommunications FTP site. This option speeds the transfer of information between the Virtual Ticket/Job Manager system and the support technician, who can assist in the diagnosis of technical problems.
Smart Tip of the Month
InterSync Configuration Information
Before setting up InterSync folders and volumes, knowing some valuable information about the locations InterSync will monitor can help speed your configuration time.
- What type of folder/volume is the volume? Is it SMB or AFP?
If the folder/volume resides on a Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Samba Server it should be configured in the FileSystem and MetaData services as an SMB folder/volume. If the folder/volume is located on an AppleShare IP, MacOS, Unix, or Helios Server the folder and volume should be configured in InterSync as AFP. - Does a log in and password exist for this folder/volume, and does this log in have a minimum of READ access to the volumes InterSync will watch?
For security purposes, the FileSystem and MetaData services of InterSync must be supplied with a user name and password to access the server where the desired volume/folder is located. This user must have with a minimum access level of READ for the folder/volume InterSync is monitoring. - Is the server where the folder/volume resides in a different domain than the server where InterSync is installed?
If the server is an SMB server, the server’s domain will be required when entering the user name and password InterSync will use to connect to the folder/volume. If the server is located in a different domain, the domain name must be entered in the Username field before the user name. A backslash is required to separate the domain name and user name.- Ex. Username: Domain\Username
Password: mypassword - What is the server name or IP address of the server where the folder/volume is located?
When connecting to SMB folders/volumes on your network, the server name will be used as a part of the UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path to connect to the desired network shared folder/volume. The host name may also be used to configure AFP folders/volumes. However, if the host name of your AFP server cannot be resolved through DNS on your network, the AFP folder/volume must be configured in the FileSystem and MetaData services using the IP address of the AFP server.- Ex. SMB \\ServerName\VolumeName
AFP HostName:VolumeName: or 192.1.1.1:VolumeName:
Third Party Software
Necessary Third-Party Software
Third-party software is utilized when thumbnailing certain file types with the Virtual Ticket client application or through InterSync. Microsoft PowerPoint must be installed at any workstation where PowerPoint files will be thumbnailed including servers where InterSync is installed. For thumbnailing PICT files with InterSync, you will need to install QuickTime on the server. Use the standard installation of QuickTime with the option to use QuickTime selected on the Thumbnailing tab of the MetaData Service Properties window.
For more information about QuickTime, visit: www.apple.com/QuickTime/.
