Technology

The Workgroups 2007 suite is a cross platform solution that combines browser and desktop based client applications to provide a comprehensive set of tools for your creative, publishing and prepress workgroups. The Workgroups 2007 suite utilizes the following core technologies:

Server

  • Windows 2000 or 2003 Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 required for reporting.)
  • .Net technology (C#)
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)

Clients

  • Browser and desktop client based access
  • On-demand desktop client access
  • Desktop client components and applications written in C++ for Mac OS X and Windows platforms
  • Desktop client communications technology - TCP/IP (No ODBC or middleware required)
  • Performance tuned for multi-site WAN access

Integration

Workgroups provides powerful tools that enable integration with third-party software programs and existing Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) systems. Workgroups integration interfaces include a SQL SDK, MetaScript, AppleScript, and third-party Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) tools.

Server Requirements

Workgroups products, depending upon your configuration, may require one or more of the following: a database server, portal server, and indexing server. These server applications may be distributed amongst individual servers or be hosted on a single server.

Database, Web, Indexing Server

  • Intel Pentium IV or compatible 2.0 GHz or higher processor. Multi-core or hyper-threaded processors preferred for servers running Microsoft SQL Server, Application Server, Portal, and InterSync software combinations.
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or 2003 Server with latest service packs
  • NET Framework 1.1 SP 1, Windows Scripting Host 5.6 and Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.0+ (for Portal installations only)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Workgroups Edition (or higher edition) with latest service pack
  • 2+ GB RAM
  • Minimum hard drive recommendation:
    • System and programs drive (10+ GB)
    • Database hard drive (40+ GB)
    • Database backup drive (40+ GB) - optional for transaction log backups
  • Tape drive for offline backup (optional). Alternatively, administrators may include SQL Server and hard drives in a departmental backup strategy.

Client Requirements

Production and Image Portal Browsers (Required for Job Manager, Approval Manager, and Image Portal)

  • Mac OS X browser support: Mozilla Firefox, Safari
  • Windows browser support: Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer
  • Scripting (JavaScript) must be enabled

Job Manager Client Application (Required for Invoicing functionality only)

  • Windows Platform CPU: Intel Pentium class or compatible processor
  • Macintosh Platform CPU: G4/G5/Intel processor
  • OS Requirements: Windows XP/2000/2003 or Mac OS Version: 9.x or OS X 10.3+ (with classic enabled)
  • 128+ MB RAM
  • 100+ MB disk space

Virtual Ticket Client Application

  • Windows Platform CPU: Intel Pentium class or compatible processor
